ILP Participation- Teacher Interview
I interviewed a kindergarten teacher that lives in West Virginia. I asked Mrs. Figueroa what technology is used in her classroom, her favorite device, a device she wish she could use and some advantages and disadvantages of the technology. She stated "In my classroom we have an apple TV, two laptops (for teacher use) and iPads for a student ratio of 1:1, so that each student has their own." Her favorite type of technology is the iPad, because she is able to use Apple Classroom which lets her set a lesson for her students to guide learning. A great aspect of Apple Classroom is that the teacher has the capability of managing the students devices and constantly monitor what they are doing. When I asked about a device she wish she had, Mrs. Figueroa said "With the innovative motive platform the Apple TV provides as an interactive whiteboard I feel there isn't another technology I wish I had." A struggle she has witnessed is the distraction the iPads can serve if not properly managed through clear & concise expectations. In order to avoid this, Mrs. Figueroa says "it is important to hold workshops for your kids just as we do for our educators when we are trained on technology. That way, technology serves more as positive tool than a negative." Though that seems easy, it is difficult to do with kindergartens, however, once they can navigate it themselves & take ownership it can be a powerful thing.

I believe I will use data collecting and surveys as a teacher when I am wanting to analyze my students performance. I will be able to analyze how my students succeed in certain situations and document it through data. I also can receive suggestions through survey form on how to better my performance as a teacher.
I found it very interesting to see how each individual blog was different from the rest in the classroom. Though we are given the same questions to answer, each of us had our own take on the question and answered differently. This is a great way to showcase how everyone works and processes differently.
A technology related skill I am intrigued in learning about next is more in-depth with photoshop. we haven't really covered it but I believe it is a great way to create fun and eye catching projects for your students.

The flipped classroom is a very interesting way to teach. In a quick explanation, flipped classroom means you have the students learn the material before class and during class you assign them homework and answer any questions they may have. I personally do not think I would use this strategy for multiple reasons. The first reason being it puts all of the work on the student to learn the material on their own... not only does that discourage their eagerness to learn (because it is cutting into their free time out of school), but it is also extremely difficult to try and teach yourself a lesson that you have never been taught. I believe it is much more efficient to take the class time to teach the students the lesson, and have them complete the assignment on their own time, allowing them to take as long as they need.
After doing the power point assignments have been more aware of how there is a wide variety of things that can be done on power point. I learned how to link pages to create games like jeopardy or a story slide like the milkmaid and her pail. I feel as though I learned a lot more of the cool skills that are provided in power point.

I really believe that Diigo can be used later during my education career. While using Diigo I learned great tools that give me the ability to annotate websites, make comments and post it on a page so that my other peers are able to easily access it. This is a great tool to have when I am a teacher, because I can use it to share ideas and information with other teachers while they are doing the same. Diigo keeps the websites and notes very organized and easily accessible for the users.
I love PowerPoint. It allows one to be creative, while presenting information, pictures, videos and much more. Power points are used Kindergarten all the way up to graduate level classes. It is an easy way for the teacher to create notes to present to the students at the level needed. For example, as a kindergarten teacher I am able to write down the different seasons of the year and add clip art, pictures, funky colors and eye catching transitions. This is important as a kindergarten teacher because kids at a young age need their attention to be grabbed for them to want to learn and understand what is being taught.
Being up to date with the newest technology is an important duty for a teacher. Technology is being innovated and advanced everyday and it is very crucial that teachers take advantage of the newest technologies to advance their classrooms. For example, if a teacher is not staying up to date with the new technology trends they may get stuck with the harder version, and less effective equipment such as regular quizzes instead of using the new "iClicker". A website that will keep me updated is https://go.infotech.com/bs/CIO_Trends_2018?msclkid=120ef87c52321481879ea39e528a49a5
This website allows you to stay in the loop on the newest technology updates and trends. It describes what the technology does and what it is for. It would be a great way to ensure you are using the best equipment for your students.
